Mike T. Joyner Damage Prevention Award

In memory of Liaison Director Mike Joyner, a resolution was passed creating the Michael T. Joyner Damage Prevention Award on October 1, 2014. This Resolution was presented to his wife, Janice Joyner, his son Michael Joyner, Jr and his daughter-in-law Katie Joyner. This award was created to be the highest honor Georgia 811 presents to a damage prevention advocate.

Immediately following the resolution creating this award, the first ever recipient was recognized for his years of service in the damage prevention industry both here in Georgia and across the country. Rick Lonn with Atlanta Gas Light was presented with the Michael T. Joyner Damage Prevention Advocate Award by Georgia 811 President & CEO Claudette Campbell and the Joyner family. “The word ‘can’t’ is not in his vocabulary. Rick has worked endlessly here in Georgia with the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) and has become a mainstay in gas industry organizations. He is always there when we need him,” Campbell shares.

Lonn has served on the Georgia 811 board for 25 years in addition to his tireless efforts with the Georgia Utility Coordinating Council (GUCC). Lonn has also served as the chair of the GUCC Legislative Committee for a number of years. “Through his diplomacy, GUCC has been able to bring all types of stakeholders to the table to create common ground,” states Campbell.
